The PF5, unlike most EMF meters, measures frequencies in the range from 20 Hz to well over 50 kHz. This huge frequency bandwidth enables the PF5 to also measure EMFs from higher-frequency electric and magnetic fields emitted by induction cooking hobs, solar panel inverters, ‘energy-saving’ compact fluorescent (CFL) lamps and some LED lights. These electric fields can cause headaches and eye problems, among other adverse health effects.
These new higher-frequency appliances are of concern since the currents they induce in your body are proportional to frequency. Induction hobs, in particular, induce some of the highest internal electric currents in your body in the VLF frequency range, which have been shown to significantly affect the nervous system, so it is advisable to limit your exposure to these VLF fields.
The Swedish National Energy Department issued an advisory warning that schools, playgrounds and day care centres should not be sited near power lines, and that children should not be subjected for long periods every day to AC (50-60 Hz) magnetic fields over 3.0 mG. The PF5 can accurately measure this. The PF5 measures magnetic field strength from 0.2 to 20.0 milliGauss (mG), and electric field strength from 5 to 200 V/m. Readout uses a column of LED lights.
Includes instructions, battery, soft carry-case. Lightweight and very compact (4½ in x 2¼ in x ¾ in). It does not measure magnets, or RF fields like mobile phones or WiFi. The PF5 is single-axis, so it is necessary to rotate the meter to measure the field. The PF5 is manufactured by EMFields in UK, known for accurate, high-quality home measurement instruments, with a two-year warranty.
